Brussels Herbs plant pots

Posted by Jim Parker under Home Remodeling Tips

Fresh herbs, I like to use them as much as possible when I’m cooking. Only problem for me personally are the pots they are in now. They aren’t exactly pretty to keep on the table in plain sight. So I started doing some research to find a better solution that pleases my designer eye. After some browsing I stumbled upon some really neat ones with a familar name.

The pots that caught my attention are produced by Dutch pottery firm Elho (sorry, no link because the site plays music unwanted, and uses frames plus Flash, so I can’t even link to the English version), and are called “Brussels Herbs plant pots”. They are designed by Bas van der Veer and allow you to grow herbs right inside the kitchen or any other room where there is enough light for things to grow.

The mild temps continue here in Central PA with yesterday’s high reaching into the 70’s. These are great times to enjoy a fall vegetable garden and to complete those final fall clean-up tasks before colder weather arrives.

My garlic, shallots, and potato onions are all in the ground, the last seeds have been planted, and the cold frames and low tunnels are in place and ready to grow. Not much left to do in the garden besides harvest the crops as they mature, and to enjoy the scenery.

Enjoying the Fall Garden as the Growing Season Lingers

There are carrots, beets, parsnips, gobo, and other root crops biding their time underground but there is no rush to harvest these just yet. The

The winners of the 2011 HI-MACS design competition, organised by LG Hausys, were announced at a ceremony during the 100% Design show in London at the end of last month. The student prize went to Mario Fuentes and his Naked Lamp, a single form street lamp designed to bring both colour and light to town or city streets. And Daniel Abendroth won the professional prize for his E-Moke – a static bike-like object for public places, where people can sit, relax and gently pedal to re-charge mobile phone, iPods and other mobile devices.

The theme for this year’s competition was Urban Furniture – a subject that provided both young talents and old hands with plenty of scope for daring ideas and innovative concepts.

The Gathering at Garst, billed as “a garden of antiques and art” took place July 30-31 on North Broadway Street in Greenville and boasted approximately 5,000 visitors. The first festival of what intends to become an annual event, it was held on the commons of the Garst Museum. The Gathering celebrated local heritage and promoted awareness and appreciation of people who make unique contributions to Darke County.

“The Gathering at Garst was an awesome opportunity to promote the Art at Bears Mill series,” said Ben Deeter, a ceramic artist from Pleasant Hill. “Our sales for the weekend exceeded our expectations. It was really great to see the community support, the weather was great and the food was outstanding. We definitely look forward to returning next year.”

QueB – Made by FARZ

Posted by Jim Parker under Home Remodeling Tips

The product that I’ll highlight today only exists out of one steel rail and three steel cubes and can be used to store CD’s, DVD’s, Books, … You can hang the boxes in any way you can imagine, this way you will never get bored easily by this flexible peace of furniture. QueB is a simple storage rack that is being ingeniously fixed to the wall, so none of the screws are visible.

QueB is created by 3 young people from Belgium with different backgrounds. They call themselves FARZ and are located in Leuven. QueB is their first step into the world of industrial design. I got the opportunity to talk to Bart Houben, one of the people behind this young design collective to find out what is involved, and if it was difficult to go from an idea to a finished object that is ready to be sold.

I have always been attracted to design, most of all cutting edge industrial design. I
