Five tips on buying sofas

  1. Looking for quality sofas rather than cheap versions and opt for those that have solid frame. A number of cheaper versions might appear good but actual foundation might not be able to stand the test of time. A pine or oak frame made from particles board or plywood.
  2. Inspect the sofa’s textile and the way well it is tailored. Make sure to see if seams are even if the piping line up. With regards to printed sofas, patterns should match from one piece to another well enough on the edges and the front.
  3. While buying leather, at all times makes sure you are getting the real deal. Vinyl can sometimes look, feel and ever smell like the actual thing. Check the difference through looking at the base within the settee to determine if it’s dyed all the way through. But

Energy Deadline for tax credits for energy-saving upgrades is Dec. 31 Dec 2, 2011 4:26 PM

Time is running out for homeowners to make energy-efficient improvements that qualify for a 2011 tax credit. The credits of up to $500 are set to expire at the end of the year and its uncertain if Congress will renew them for 2012. The income tax credits for 2011 differ from those available for 2009 and 2010, according to the Alliance to Save Energy so make sure you do your homework before filing your income taxes.

The outlook for renewal of federal energy efficiency tax incentives is uncertain at best, said Alliance President Kateri Callahan in a press release, so we encourage homeowners to complete those upgrades before the ball drops in Times Square at midnight on New Years Eve.

The home improvements that qualify for tax credits fall into a number of categories:

  • Exterior windows, skylights and storm windows.

I had the opportunity to attend the 2011 Mother Earth News Fair in Seven Springs PA this past weekend. It was a great event that Ill add to my rotation of annual gardening shows and will definitely be recommending to others.

There was a flurry of activity with over a dozen stages running concurrent workshops from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday.

Antik Kombo Instabil Storage System

All those who adore creative ideas and pieces of furniture should pay their attention to the Antik Kombo Instabil storage system. I am ready to bet it will a great addition to any interior.

To put it short, Instabil (by the way, German for unstable). This awesome storage system consists of chest of drawers and two two-legged chairs and I just wonder how they manage to support the whole structure.

I am really in love with this cutie, since Instabil storage system design combines the modern geometric shapes with vintage touch. The storage system can be placed in a hall for shoe storage.

Nothing like nature to put you back in your place.

We were feeling pretty proud of ourselves after bottling 150 jars of honey in our first year of beekeeping on The Chronicle rooftop.

Then, as we approached our two hives on a routine check in late October – we saw carnage. Dead bees were scattered in a wide circle around the entrance to both hives.

We knew to expect some die-off with the approach of winter when the colony kicks out the male drones to conserve resources. But on closer inspection we saw that the wings of these bees were wrinkled and deformed, like flimsy plastic wrap.
